Enter or edit accounting charts

Here you will learn how to add new accounts or edit existing accounts you have added yourself.

Updated over a year ago

And this is how it works...

Where can I find this function?

Navigate to ⨠Settings ⨠Accounting charts.

  1. Switch between balance sheet and income statement.

  2. Here you can enter the opening balance sheet.

Enter or edit the accounting charts

The accounts/categories of the Accounto default chart of accounts can neither be edited nor deleted. Manually added accounts or categories can be deleted, edited or moved as desired.

NOTE: If you want to add a new account or category, first check which codes are still free. Existing codes cannot be changed or overwritten.

Navigate to ⨠Settings ⨠Accounting charts.

By clicking on the three dots, you can rename accounts, add new accounts or categories.

  1. At the category where the new account will be opened, click on the three dots and on ⨠ + Account.

  2. Enter the free code that you have already checked.

  3. Name the new created account.

  4. Does not need to be filled in. It is needed only internally.

  5. Fill in the field if the account is subject to a VAT group.

    a. Define a default VAT rate to be applied automatically for transactions to this account (5.1).

  6. Define whether the account can be booked to manually.

    a. None = No warning or error message.

    b. Warning = Posting possible, but a warning will be displayed.

The warning message (6.1) can be defined by the user.

    c. Error = Booking not possible. An error message is displayed.

  7. Assign this account to a specific cost unit.

  8. Then click on ⨠save.

Excursus: Entering and using cost units

In a company, cost centers are indispensable to determine where costs have been incurred. You can create this overview with the help of Accounto.

To create cost units, first click on ⨠settings and then on ⨠tags.

  1. Now create a new ⨠+ tag category and name it (e.g. after an operating area of your company).

  2. Within a tag category you can now create cost centers by clicking ⨠+ tag and name them as desired.

  3. You also have the possibility to ⨠edit or ⨠delete existing tag categories and tags by clicking on the corresponding buttons.

Once your cost centers have been created, you can use them by assigning them to an account in the chart of accounts as a cost unit (see step 7 in the above explanations on entering and editing the accounting charts).
